What are the standard financials on apartment applications?

I’m applying for a new apartment and while I have rented several in my lifetime (at least 6) I never knew the standard financials that companies look for. I am required to provide bank account info., proof of employment, and references. Are there any real estate professionals out there that can clue me in to what standards companies are looking for in terms of income before I rent?

The importance of standards

At a recent Christmas party I found myself engaged in a stimulating conversation with a group friends and their spouses that includes a manager for UPS. Somehow we got on the topic of customer service and Safeway has been raised.

We all talked about how the Safeway management team has done an excellent job of creating an oriented customer culture in our neighborhood stores – a difference found several years ago. Then I noticed how many other stores Safeway particularly in areas that are economically oppressed, are still catching up.

The UPS manager then said that these stores should not be required to same standards as stores of "good" neighborhoods because they can not attract the same quality of employees.

Interesting.

I am sure that many managers share his point of view. I am also certain that these same managers make the mistake of placing too much the raw talent of their employees, and not enough emphasis on standards. Standards are defined as follows: something established by authority, custom or general consent as a model or example, a test or something in place and implemented by the authority as a rule for the measuring the quantity, weight, extent, value or quality.

I shared my views with a UPS manager company or organization are set by its chairman, CEO or Manager. These standards, which are carefully designed and implemented with diligence, quality the work, creating quality employees.

But many executives and managers are seduced by "The Talent Myth," which according to the author and sociologist, Malcolm Gladwell, is the widespread belief that assumes that people make organizations smart, when more often than not, the opposite. "The Myth of Talent 'is based on the perception that most stars you have, the more your organization will occur. Those who believe in this myth may having "the talent mind-set": the conviction that talent to have better at all levels is how you outperform your competitors.

In other words, this is a mistake.

Each year in the sport, whatever sport you're in, it is bound a full team of (highly paid) star who fail to deliver on the expectations that are based on their individual and collective talents. He arrived the Dallas Cowboys in 2008. A team of talent in all positions, but in the end have been compromised by the lack of standards set by their coach. The lesson taken from their futile season is one that my new friend UPS manager and the supporters of The Talent Myth "should take into account: influence standards performance more than talent.

If you suspect that infallible formula for excellence is to hire the best talent and retain the most high level, which would be a logical inclination. Unfortunately, as evidenced by the 2008 Dallas Cowboys who have experienced a litany of disagreements and conflicts personality, internal standards are just as important as the company standards. Inner standards are what makes a person teachable, coachable, and manageable. It allows them to take direction and receive advice. It is also the step from good to very possible, if it is not easy.

Many talented people rely solely on their talents and do not develop critical "intangible" qualities in the process. John C. Maxwell author of talent is never enough States that talent – in the absence of intangible qualities such as discipline, character and integrity – Is insignificant. This is where the direction or supervision comes in. Their job is to get a maximum flow of talent (s) they manage.

Michael Jordan credited his initial rejection of his team's school basketball up being the impetus of his greatness. Because he has not made the team (something he thought he could easily do), he worked extra, extra hard to accomplish some something he never dreamed he would do (become the greatest basketball player of all time). It came as a result of its own internal standards (practice time after the team had left) and follow the standards set by his coach (who insisted on team play and defense). Michael Jordan, like many employees, had a short list of requirements, but feasible to develop: opportunities and guidance to reach their full potential. The two that have been made possible with the standards and adherence to them, which finally made him realize that the team leader six-time champion Chicago Bulls.

The largest capacity of any employee may have a talented player accountability.

Hopefully, the next time my friend goes UPS manager in a poor district and receives unsatisfactory service, it will be able to correctly identify the real problem is not the talent pool, the hiring decisions, or managers, but the lack of recognition of the importance of establishing standards within the company that managers should convey to employees in both their expectations and policies.
